2015.12 SD C4 WIN 7 version is the shining points for this new version software for SD C4 diagnostic tool.

Many WIN 7 users do never worry that whether SDconnect software is suitable for their laptop or not. And this version avoid some conflicts/ errors happened when earlier software in Win 7 system.

1. Some Win7 Star software- hhtwin can’t work for S140 Classis diagnosis. (Mercedes carsbefore 1998 are not available)
   2. Win7 Star software can not support WIFI, so wireless diagnosis or programming is not available.
2. For the StarFinder 2010, part of the circuit diagram can’t display.

NOTE: all disabled functions above only can be achieved in win XP version.

How to activate MB SD C4 DAS/Xentry 

Working solution to MB SD Connect C4 unlock dump

This is a dump read out from PIC16LF88 chip of my own MB SD Connect C4 device (4-5 years old). It’s 100% working.

Mbstarshop engineer know it exactly because I’ve succesfully unlocked 3 units for last 2 days using it. Each one works fine.

You don’t need to buy a new one PIC16FL88. You just have to program chip from your own device.

After that when you run your SDconnect you will probably see that serial number, OS version of your device are changed into zeroes “0000”.
Don’t worry. Just change your C4 to factory state using buttons near by LCD (no need to explain “How to…” because it’s quite clear). After rebooting you’ll see actual SN, OS version and so on.

Also you can change serial number of your device. 24c02 contains it. After changing number just run “factory settings” function…other way it will not change. After reboot you’ll probably see (on lcd of your device) your SN looks like “the number you’ve programmed into chip +1″… I mean 10001 inspite of 10000 for example and so on, but in SDNC tool kit you’ll see the real SN (10000), and after succesfull reconfiguring your device you’ll see the right number on LCD of your MB SD C4.

I was using cheap ssop28 (0.65mm step) adapter and Pickit3 programmer to read/write PIC16lf88. This scheme made for Pickit3 OEM socket(ICSP).

Also I’ve got dumps of both flashes 29f016 and PIC18lf8680 if somebody need it.

Somebody asked me if I have dumps of both flash memories 29f016. Finally I’ve found them. In the picture below you can see marks A & B made with pencil and dumps in archive are also named according to signs in the picture.
One of archives (probably – device1) contains dumps from device which didn’t support command CE_flash_loeschen and the other one ( it seems device2) contains dums from working SDConnect.

I read them both using Triton 5.7 programmer with hand-made adapter for 8-bit flash memories (29XXXX).

If you try to read-write them using TL866/wizardprog/willem…then don’t waste your time. These programmers won’t dothis job. But it was few years ago, so probably something changed.

Reset Benz transmission adaption with MB SD Connect C4

Here is the instruction on resetting transmission adaption for Mercedes Benz by MB SD Connect Compact 4 Star diagnostic system. 

Equipment:

Mercedes Benz WIFI MB SD Connect C4 star diagnostic system (SDS)

Dell D630 laptop running Windows XP home

1)       If you have got the MB SD Connect 4 multiplexer alone and additional Dell D630 laptop, you need to install and activate the Star software. But if you get the bundle dealer: MB SD C4+ DellD630 laptop, software is pre-installed and activated. Directly run DAS software.

2)       Select vehicle model in vehicle selection menu.

3)       Run a quick self-test

4)       Select Control unit in the main function menu, click F3

5)       Select Drive control module

6)       Select Transmission option under Drive unit

7) Select Adaptation among various transmission system options. Press F3

8) Select Display and reset of adaptation data

9) You will able to view the adaptation value in the next program. Select Resetting of adaptation data

10) When the system pope out the reset notice, accept it by pressing F3 button

11) Click Yes to confirm the adaption data reset operation

12) Adaption data have been reset. Perform a test drive. Back to the main menu and project the function you want.

Activate Benz Gas Tank Mod with MB SD Connect 4 Star Diagnostic

Here is the instruction on how to to check the gas volume (activate Gas Tank Mod) of your Mercedes with MB Star diagnostic software.

Equipment:
Mercedes Benz MB SD Connect Compact 4 Star Diagnostic multiplexer with software HDD 2009.11.  (The latest software HDD is 2014.12)
Dell D630 laptop running Win XP home

Activate Benz Gas Tank Mod (Gallons) instruction via DAS Developer Mode:

1. Install and activate the MB SD C4 software
2. Select vehicle model->F3
3. Come to Control units menu, ->F3

4. Select Information and communication, -> F3

5. Select ICM-Instrument cluster with maintenance internal display, -> F3

6. Select Diagnosis to plant specifications->F3

7. Select Control unit adaptations->F3

8. Select Control unit adaptations(Variant coding)->F3

9. Select Variantenkodierung->F3

10. Select Tankifo in Reichweitenbild and change the status to aktivieren->F3

11. Select Actuations->F3

12. Select Complete index of actuations->F3

13. Select ECU Reset(FN-ECU-Reset)->F3

14. Start ECU resetting. When complete the procedure, back to main program or exit MB Star Diagnostic DAS software program.

How to configure MB SD Connect 4 RS232 convert cable

In some cases, Mercedes Benz MB SD Connect Compact 4 diagnostic system owners will come across “Initialization of the multiplexer has failed” when installing the Star diagnosis software.

And the most frequently reason to the problem is because the wrong/incorrect computer configuration.

If you did not get the Dell D630 laptop with MB SD C4 and use your own laptop, make sure your laptop has COM port and strictly follow the software installation video instruction.

If your laptop is not compatible with com port, you need to buy additional Z-TEK USB 1.1 to RS232 convert cable or PCMCIA PC COM port convert card. Because necessary com port setting is required during the software installation procedure.

Z-TEK USB 1.1 to RS232 convert cable is the cheaper choice than PCMCIA PC card. Then how to configure RS232 convert cable for Star diagnosis multiplexer?

1. First do not start the Virtual machine

2. Set the Z-TEK USB 1.1 to RS232 convert cable COM Port to “com 1”

3. Start the Virtual machine and remain the com port setting (do not set com port this time)

Or simply follow this way:

1. Do not run Star diagnostic software

2. Turn on the computer

3. Install Z-TEK USB 1.1 to RS232 convert diagnostic cable adapter driver and set com port to OCM1

4. Run Virtual machine and do not set com port again
